Spanish for “evergreen” or “holm oak,” Encino is a hilly neighborhood in Los Angeles in the southern San Fernando Valley and on the northern slope of the Santa Monica Mountains. Encino stretches from the 405 Freeway in the east to Tarzana in the west and was established in 1845 as Rancho Encino.

There are four elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools, which include Birmingham Community Charter High School and Reseda High School.

Phillips Graduate Institute is also in the nearby area, and Pepperdine University offers a Graduate Campus in the Encino area where you can obtain a part-time degree.

The Encino Velodrome is an outdoor bicycle-racing track that offers training for anyone who wants to take up bicycle racing. There is also the Los Encinos State Historic Park, which features picnic grounds, historical buildings and a museum, and the Sepulveda Garden Center, which houses a 16-acre community garden. Encino is also home to Woodley Park, where an annual Earth Day festival is held.

This is also where you can find the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area, which features 18-hole golf courses, an 80-acre sports field, an archery range, tennis courts and biking paths, among several other things.
